Shadow Hills Senior Men Preparing to Start New Tour and Events
Another great year of Senior Men’s golf is approaching, and perennial organizer and commissioner, Steve Mason is looking to fill the remaining slots in this year’s roster.
The first SHSM tour event is 32 days away on Friday April 10 at Shadow Hills. We currently have 14 players signed up and room for 22 more players. (SEE BELOW FOR THE COMPLETE 15 EVENT TOUR SCHEDULE).

SIGN UP PROCEDURES:
All events at Shadow Hills: Sign Up Now! Contact the golf shop or sign up on line with the ForeTees system. When signing up for the first event simply indicate if you want to be an annual $100 member or wish to pay $10 per event.
Away Events (Except Bandon and Sunriver): Sign ups start one month prior to each away event. Contact the golf shop or sign up on line with the ForeTees system. Most away events are limited to the annual Shadow Hills tour players who pay the $100 annual fee.
Bonus Events: Bandon trip in March 27-30 (play any day that works) and the Sunriver/Crosswater trip on May 17-19 – Please contact Steve Mason if you want to join us on either trip.
This group is exclusively for Shadow Hills Men Members 50 or older (or will turn 50 this year).
SHSM TOUR: For annual tour players only. This year we will again have 15 tour events (SEE SCHEDULE BELOW) worth a total of 100,000 points. This is similar to the PGA tour with FedEx points. Players who skip an event will not be penalized but only the top 17 tour players for each event will earn SHSM points. The top 20 tour players at the end of the season will earn golf shop credit.
$100 ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FEE: The annual $100 membership fee includes all 15 tour events (some away events have an additional fee), the SHSM point game and the year end championships and dinner on September 4. Players who play in their first SHSM tour event simply need to indicate if they are an annual $100 member and the $100 membership fee will show up on your Shadow Hills statement.
DROP IN PLAYERS: $10 PER EVENT: Players who do not pay the $100 membership may join us for any event at Shadow Hills for $10 per event and compete for event prize money (but will not earn SHSM points).
FORMAT FOR EACH EVENT: Net stableford. This is similar to 18 hole net stroke play except the maximum score per hole is a net double bogie. This speeds up play as players may pick up on any hole and record an “X” without being disqualified. We also allow a “gimmie” putt of 24” or less to speed up play. We follow USGA rules and we have a three person rules committee to handle any issues.
EVENT PRIZE MONEY: The top 25% of all players for each event will earn golf shop credit.
HONEY POT: $5 Optional cash fee per event: The cash honey pot will be awarded as follows: 1st place 30%, 2nd place 20%, 3rd place 10%, each KP 10%
GROUP GOALS: Just a reminder that the goal of this group is to meet and golf with others in our club that we normally do not golf with and enjoy relaxed (but competitive) golf. We started this group in 2009 with 24 annual members plus another 13 players played in one or more event for a total of 37 players. Last year we had 45 annual tour members plus another 17 players played in one or more event for a total of 62 players. We have purposely kept the entry fees low with a relaxed format and many have benefited with new friendships. It been proven that all levels of golfers (regardless of handicap) have an opportunity to win prize money and SHSM points. Two years ago the top three tour players were also the three lowest handicap players. Groups are set up by the golf shop at random to allow us all to meet others and make new friends. Please do not request to play with any particular person unless absolutely necessary or set up a foursome. This will allow us all to make new friends and we should all realize by now that friends are more important than most things in life. The golf shop will be happy to accommodate anyone in need of a power cart or an early or late tee time.
