Men’s League Final Results – “The Miracle On Grass”
By Patric Miller – ShadowHillsExtra editor
Without question, when I talk to members of other clubs, they are always amazed at the incredible golf community and club league participation we have here at Shadow Hills CC. The Women’s Leagues are full and robust with players of all skill levels. The Men’s Leagues are full to the brim, with highly competitive League play, and an extended schedule that is unmatched at almost any other club or public course in the Northwest.
This year, the battle for top team honors came down to the final match, in BOTH divisions. As a player on one of the teams in contention, the results were truly amazing and memorable.
Click Below for results and recap.
In the A Division, perennial favorites dropped out of contention in final weeks, and when the dust settled, there were a handful of new teams clamoring for the First Place Prize money.
In the end, the winning team was comprised of some of the best younger players in the mix… Fiser, Mann, Danielson, Weeks and Davis. These are some low-shooting players who won through consistency.
In B League, as a member of “Team Hanavan,” we had controlled the leaderboard in league play for almost the entire stretch, until a couple of missteps against some “higher handicap” teams cost us two successive losses, and bumped us into second place by .5 points. Our final match, against long-term rivals (led by team captain Steve Brous) was a “must win” if we were to have any hope of finishing in the money. We faced a dizzying set of mathematic outcomes that included tying for third if we lost, attaining 2nd place alone if we won, and the long-shot, of winning 1st outright by .5 if our other arch-rivals, Team Varner lost to Team McAlexander, and team that struggled with a 1-4 start, but were finishing strong as the season ended.
We came into the clubhouse after our round with a win, to find that team McAlexander had indeed pulled off the win required for our “Miracle on Grass” finish! Whoooohooo!
It is clear that Shadow Hills is blessed with a huge group of talented, engaged golfers who love “placing reputation, bragging rights, and honor” on the line, while having loads of fun, and eating some AMAZING after-round meals. Special thanks to Chef Diana and our amazing server staff for providing excellent food and smiling service (often well past 9PM) for the entire season!
If you don’t play in the Leagues (including Senior Men’s and the plethora of opportunities provided by the Women’s Club), you are truly missing out on one of the best ways to mix golf, fun and camaraderie at Shadow Hills CC.
I’m already looking forward to the 2016 season!
