You should have received your ballots in the mail. Vote for three and return your ballots by October 14th or bring them to the Annual Meeting at 7:30PM, October 14th.

My beginning at Shadow Hills started in 1998 when Donna and I joined.  Since that time I have enjoyed the golf, and meeting and making friends.  Over the last 10 years I have served on several committees and was a Board member for 2 terms (2007 through 2014).   I was elected Board president for the 2013 year.  After having a little time away from the Board, I found I missed the interaction and being a part of the decision making team.

Shadow Hills is like a second home to me, as it is to many others, and I want nothing but the best for the future generations of members who join our close knit family.

We have accomplished a lot for the benefit of our club and I have visions of making it even better.  I’m currently on the Finance Committee and the Long Range Planning Committee. Being on these two other committees will help me guide the board on major decisions in the future.

New ideas and people are always a plus, but sometimes when mixed with wisdom and experience it’s even better. I’m hoping you will cast a vote for wisdom and experience.

I first want to thank the Shadow Hills Members for the opportunity to serve the club as a Board Member the past three years.   It would be my honor to serve another term if the Members decide that is best for our fine Club.   I have been a member since 1989 and have truly enjoyed my experience here at Shadow Hills Country Club.   My committee experience dates back over 15 years serving as Greens Committee Chair, however currently am serving as Chair of the Membership Committee for the past two years. It has been rewarding to work with the Members who serve with me on the Membership Committee.

As most of you know, Shadow Hills Country Club is unique in the fact that, in the past year, we have achieved 98% of full membership.  The majority of the credit of our Club’s achievements in retaining and adding new Members over the past several years, with no debate, needs to be given to our

General Manager, Dave Shelton and his fine staff.   With that said, Members must also know that I will continually ensure that decisions made by the Board will in no way negatively impact the high level of playability of our biggest asset….Our Golf Course.    Thank you for your consideration.

The long-term success of Shadow Hills depends on a large pool of volunteers who are willing to raise a hand with the offer be of service.  It is in this spirit that I thank you for this opportunity to run for a position on the Board of Directors.

Jennings Group, Inc. was founded in 1978.  The core business is property management.  At our peak in 2005 we managed over 6,000 units with 4 offices from Seattle to Eugene.  Between 1997 and 2012 I was the Developer of 8 housing communities, the largest being a mixed-use, 7 story building in Downtown Eugene.  I originated and partnered in Home Waters Fly Fishing.  This business was sold after 17 years of successful operation.  I believe that my real estate business experience along with the experience gained in a recreation based business would be of value in service on the Board.

For over 10 years I served on the Board and held multiple offices with the Federation of Fly Fishers.  The FFF serves 12,000 members and hundreds of fly fishing clubs around the country from its office in Bozeman, MT. I was a founding Board Member of the Emerald Valley Boys & Girls Club.  I also served on the Board of Downtown Eugene, Inc.  Having joined Shadow Hills in 2012, I am in my second year on the Golf Committee. I believe that these volunteer experiences have given me a strong background of understanding the organizational structures necessary for volunteers to successfully interface with the high quality professionals who we employ to operate Shadow Hills.

I would come to the Board primarily to learn more about how and why Shadow Hills is so successful.

I simply want to help carry the water going forward.  If I have a predisposition based on my current views; it would be toward picking up the pace of improvement projects that are already being planned.  I see the daily marketing presence of Shadow Hills to current Members, new Members and those visiting our event facilities to be of the highest priority.

I’ve been a proud member at Shadow Hills for a decade. I believe the quality of golf, members, and atmosphere are unmatched in the area. I’ve enjoyed so many good times and friendships at the club over the years and look at this as an opportunity to give back.

I believe the club is an exciting place as we are seeing our new facility become a premier venue in the area and we are able to channel more revenue into improving the course and member experience.

I am a global director for a Fortune 500 software company leading an organization of 150+ people delivering premium support to our largest customers. I have experience working with large budgets and strategic planning to ensure organizations continue to evolve and improve to meet the needs of tomorrow. I want to bring these business management skills to help make sure the club continues to grow and that we are set up for future success for years to come.

I believe the Board exists to be the voice of the membership and provide transparency into the operations of the club. If these things are important to you as well, I would appreciate your vote. Being nominated is an honor, getting a chance to serve would be a privilege.

My wife Debbie and I have been members of Shadow Hills since joining during the “Great Springfield Migration of 2009.”  During that time, we have watched SHCC grow and evolve, while maintaining the aspects that make the club unique.  I have been active in almost every aspect of the club as a member, from Men’s League, Senior Men’s, countless Crazy 8 scrambles, parties, events, and karaoke nights. In 2013, I made the conscientious decision to start “giving back” to the place that we hope will continue to be a large part of “the rest of our lives.”

I offer a unique mix of talents to the Board that include more than 35 years of entrepreneurial management, award-winning creative experience in marketing, advertising, multimedia production, and Internet development. My work at Shadow Hills CC has been integral to the growth in membership, communications, marketing, and promotion, with the following highlights:

Serving Two Years on the Membership Committee

Overhaul and maintenance of the new SHCC Web Site saving the club thousands in hosting costs.

  • Creation and ongoing maintenance of ShadowHillsExtra.com for expanded communications
  • Creation, Editing, layout of Monthly Print and Online Newsletter and Weekly Email updates
  • Creation and placement of Newspaper ads, Television ads, Long-form Promotional Videos

Having the rare opportunity of working both on a committee, as well as hand-in-hand planning with staff on a regular week-to-week basis, I feel I am uniquely qualified to bring a pragmatic balance between operations, planning, and promotion in a way that keeps the membership informed. If elected, I will expand communications while making sure that both staff and members are represented in every Board decision. It would be a privilege to serve both members and our staff as a Board member.

My wife Judy and I have been Shadow Hills members for eleven years now and truly love this family oriented club. I am seven years retired from a 42 year career in sales management with William’s/Franz Bakeries. I have served, in the past, on several charitable organizational boards and am currently involved with the Children’s Miracle Network Board. I am in my fifth year serving on the SHCC Finance Committee, chairing it for the past three years and in my second year serving on the Green’s Committee. The biggest honor; however, has been being a Board member of SHCC for the last three years.

We, as members, have been fortunate to be a part of the success that Shadow Hills has experienced in the last few years. It is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to make the decisions that promote this continued growth while maintaining a financially secure foundation for the future. I believe my background and experience qualifies me to serve SHCC in these areas.

I am honored to have been nominated to run for a second term on the SHCC Board of Directors and take this responsibility seriously. If re-elected to continue serving on your board, I will work hard to be a part of those decisions that will secure a solid pathway for years to come at SHCC.
