Newly Revised Cart Path Regulations

One of the most destructive forces on our course is in fact “man made.” No, we are not talking about the effects of humans on global warming, and the resulting La Nina super-wet weather. We are talking about irresponsible golf cart use, which can leave parts of our course deeply scarred for weeks, if not months.

Working with the golf committee, head professional and golf course superintendent, a new cart path rule has been drafted, and will become effective immediately. A “Modified 90 Degree Rule” has been added to our current standard 90 Degree Rule to take advantage of our firm fairways, while helping to protect less stable rough areas. One of the most important aspects of the new rule is to enter the fairway across the driest rough area available, and then staying on the fairway until your ball is on or near the green. You will then exit the fairway across the driest available rough area.

It is important to remember that using a golf cart anywhere on our facility is a privilege, and that our course is one of our most important assets. For this reason, common sense and courtesy are to be used at all times while operating carts.

 CART PATH REGULATIONS

The Club has three procedures for use of carts, dependent on course conditions, as follows:

Strict Cart Path Only

  1. When course conditions are such that cart traffic can damage fairways, a sign will be posted on the first and tenth tees indicating carts are to remain on cart paths at all times. If no cart path exists you must stay within the areas designated by cart signs. Never cross the fairway or approach the greens off the cart path. This includes Special Exemption golfers.

Modified 90 Degree Rule

  1. When the course conditions are such that cart traffic does not damage the fairways, a sign will be posted on the first and tenth tees indicating that the 90 degree rule is in effect.
  2. Stay on the cart path until opposite your ball, then drive straight to it. Remain on the fairway until you have hit your approach shot onto the green while remaining 30 yards from the green.  Return directly to the cart path after hitting your approach shot.
  1. When stopping your cart at tee areas and around the greens keep all wheels on the path.
  2. Keep carts at least 30 yards from the front of the greens and never approach the greens beyond this point from the sides or the back.

CLARIFICATION: Visualize a line at least 30 yards in front of the green that extends across the entire fairway. Carts beyond this point should never leave the path to approach a green from the side or back of same.

  1. Special Exemptions – Upon application to the Head Golf Pro, certain members and guests with serious medical conditions may be given approval to drive closer than 30 yards, but not less than 10 yards to the green. The golf carts of the approved members will be identified with a special exempt flag.  They are encouraged to keep the cart at least 10 yards from the green.
  2. 6. Carts must remain on the paths at all times on all par 3 holes except for special exemption carts.
  3. 7. Abide by all signs and roped areas.
  4. 8. Carts are not allowed on the driving range.
  5. 9. To preserve the pleasant view of the course from the dining room and lounge carts are not to be parked in front of the dining room or lounge windows or on the grass area behind the #10 tee box.Click on Image to Enlarge…
