Spring Season Breaks with Irish Open – See Results!
With a number of familiar names on the leader board, one would have to ask how many are actually of Irish descent? Carmen, Johnson, Jensen, Abrahamson, Hill, and Bokn all collected money from the tournament “Pot of Gold,” and represent the melting pot of cultures that meld when the drinks are green, the golf is fun, and the weather is spectacular! Congrats to all of the winners, and everyone who came out on this beautiful Spring day!
This is the perfect way to kick off the Spring Golf season, and the scores were reflected in the great course conditions!

SHCC Senior Men Announce New Season of Events and Competition!
From Steve Mason- SHSM “Commish”
Hello Shadow Hills Senior Men (SHSM) Golfers,
Signup for the 2023 SHSM season opening event at Shadow Hills on Friday April 7. This will be our 15th year for the group, and we are expecting another good turnout again this year. We are planning to have 15 events this year with points (9 at Shadow Hills and 6 away) plus several bonus events. Players in the group annually participate in about 10 of the 15 events on the average and only a few players participate in all 15 events. We do a random draw to set up the groups, so it gives us all a chance to meet and golf with
other Senior Men at our wonderful Country Club.
Our events are low key, relaxing but competitive. We will have two events per month at Shadow Hills in April, May, and June, followed by three events at Shadow Hills after July 1 until the season ends on September 1st with a season ending finals and luncheon. The six events away courses this year include events at Eugene Country Club, Tokatee and Emerald Valley plus we will have some bonus events. The annual fee for our group is still only $100 (same as 15 years ago) or players may pay $10 per event. Away events have an additional fee. Please open the attachment for the 2023 schedule, rules, sign up procedure and a 2022 recap.

Remembering Jake Witherspoon – Celebration of Life Info
On February 21, 2023, Shadow Hills lost a long-time employee and friend, with the passing of Jake Witherspoon. Jake was the Assistant Superintendent on the golf course maintenance team for the many years, who began working at Shadow Hills in 2002. Jake began his turf management career maintaining baseball and sports fields. This experience led him to golf, where he also worked at Middlefield and Tualatin Country Club. Jake was instrumental in helping to improve the course conditions at Shadow Hills, and in his 20+ year tenure, was part of significant upgrades, while serving as Assistant Superintendent.
Jake was well-liked and respected by his coworkers, and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life for Jake Witherspoon will be held Thursday, March 9th at 4pm at Shadow Hills.

Women’s Christmas Party and Fundraiser a Success!
It was a “Winter Wonderland” at the 2022 Holiday Charity Luncheon Wednesday, December 7th. Christmas trees, seasonal quilt projects, snowflakes and snowy centerpieces decorated the ballroom. Nearly 90 Shadow Hills women and guests mingled as they listened to the Northside Clarinet Quartet play Christmas favorites.
This year the event was dedicated to the memory of Cindy Anderson, a long time Shadow Hills favorite of anyone who knew her. Betsy Ovitt presented the back-story to this lovely women telling how her closest friends rallied around her during her illness. Green Hill Humane Society was the obvious choice to be this year’s beneficiary representing Cindy’s love of animals and support of pet adoption. Cindy’s own dog, Buddy, a Green Hill rescue, was the guest of honor along with his new parents.
Attendees donated over $2500 through direct donations and the purchase of raffle tickets. Kudos again this year to the Shadow Hills quilting group for the amazing creations they donated.
The Hearts for Hospice resale “store” was able to collect $450 through sales and donations. Their participation is appreciated.
Amy and Rob Bennett funded all the desserts for a new event this year – The Dessert Dash! Although no running was involved it was fun for reps to chose a special dessert for their table. Thank you Bennett’s for your generosity.
And finally thank you to our amazing staff: Stacy and her team, Amy and the banquet crew and those behind the scenes that made this event a success.
